Snickers a brand with real character.

How do you give a voice to a brand everyone already knows, without tiring its audience? For Snickers, we cultivated a witty tone and constant reactivity, turning every post into a moment of complicity with the community.

A cult brand, a community to bring to life.

Snickers is a food brand with considerable goodwill, tied to a world full of humour and spontaneity. On social media, this kind of brand has everything to gain by owning a strong personality: that's what sets a memorable presence apart from a mere feed of adverts. Audiences don't follow a mass-market brand to be sold to — they follow it to be entertained, surprised and involved — an implicit contract Snickers had every interest in honouring fully.

The challenge was to bring that personality to life every day, in step with the brand's international codes, but resonating with local culture and humour. It needed a lively, reactive voice, able to seize the right moments to join the conversation. The brand had to exist not alongside trends, but inside them, taking part in the discussions that actually animate its audiences, rather than settling for generic messages disconnected from the moment. A brand that takes part is a brand that matters, while a brand that merely exists eventually fades into the background. A chocolate bar is a product of pleasure, sharing and energy — fertile ground for communication that plays on complicity, provided it's embodied with accuracy and without overplaying the hand.

The challenge we faced.

The first challenge was tone. A cheeky brand walks a tightrope: the humour must stay controlled, faithful to the brand's world and respectful of its audience. A misjudged tone can easily fall flat, or even hurt the brand. We needed to write a genuine grammar of tone, shared and documented, spelling out not only what gets a laugh but also what to avoid — because humour, badly dosed, easily backfires on whoever uses it.

The second challenge was reactivity. The mass-market brands that leave a mark are the ones that know how to bounce off current events and trends at the right moment. That requires a monitoring and production set-up able to react fast without sacrificing consistency or content quality. But improvised reactivity is risky: without a pre-established framework, the race for speed often leads to missteps. The whole point was to prepare spontaneity in advance, so it stays an asset and never becomes a liability.

Our lively, complicit response.

We defined a clear editorial platform, built around a complicit tone and controlled humour. From there, our Community Management practice ran the community day after day: personalised replies, conversation games, nods to current trends. Every interaction was treated as an opportunity to bring the brand's personality to life, with particular care given to comment replies — often more read and shared than the posts themselves. This attention to every single exchange turned the page into a genuine meeting place, where people came as much for the atmosphere as for the content.

In parallel, we set a sustained content rhythm and a real capacity to bounce off current events, drawing on the best practices of our Social Media practice. Every post stayed rooted in the brand's personality, a consistency exercise close to the one led for its sister brand Nivea. A base of planned content ensured regularity, while a margin was always kept for hot-take reactions, to seize opportunities without disorganising production. This double rhythm — a planned foundation and framed reactivity — was the key to a presence that was both regular and alive, neither frozen by the calendar nor scattered by constant improvisation.

The levers we used.

The project brought editorial creation, graphic production and moderation together within a single team, an essential condition for reactivity. By precisely documenting the tone and its guardrails, we could make room for spontaneity without ever losing control of the brand's image. This closeness between disciplines shortened decision cycles: an idea could be born in the morning, approved and published the same day, exactly when it had the most impact.

Closeness with the community was a constant driver. By treating every interaction as an opportunity to strengthen the bond, we nurtured attachment to the brand and its presence in conversations — a logic that connects with our approach to online reputation. The most active fans became genuine relays: by recognising them and engaging with them, the brand turned a passive audience into an engaged community, proud to take part. This public recognition of fans produced a virtuous circle: the more the brand engaged in dialogue, the more the community spoke up in turn, generating spontaneous content and recommendations worth far more than any advertising message.

What we take away.

A mass-market brand gains from owning a genuine personality: that's what creates complicity and memorability. But a witty tone only has value if it's framed: a well-designed grammar of tone is what allows a brand to take risks without ever drifting off course. Reactivity, meanwhile, is something you prepare for — it's not just a question of talent, but of organisation, monitoring and trust between the people who bring the brand to life every day. Humour, finally, remains the best shortcut to likeability: used well, it does more for attachment to a brand than a long speech about its qualities, turning a simple post into a moment people actually want to share.

This project confirms that a community can't be bought: it's cultivated, through the attention paid to every exchange and the consistency of an accurate tone. Do you run a mass-market brand and want a social presence that stands out? Talk to our team or explore our other work.
